I must admit, I’m on the Puig train. The rookie sensation has now joined a small pantheon of players whom, when referenced in text message, make you run to the television. If Puig is up, you gotta know what happens next.

I will not justify this with references to his being Cuban, or the muscles that other writers have seemed obsessed with. I will justify this by saying that this motherfucker is the closest I’ve ever seen to Joe Castle.

Tonight, with men on 1st and 3rd and 1 out, in a tie game in the 10th, with Puig on deck, all I wanted was for Juan Uribe to draw a walk. Instead, a wild pitch scored the walk-off run from 3rd. Dodgers fans were luke warm. I turned off the TV. Fortunately for the Puig contingent, we can all rest assured that he probably would’ve rocked a walk-off grand slam.

For now, I’ll just go back and watch the solo shot he hit in the 6th inning tonight. Goddamn, that was beautiful.
